It is a puzzling start. The Cowboys had wide receiver, cornerback and other spots to solve and reached instead for Cashius Howell, an edge rusher, at No. 20.

The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Thomas to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
