The Lions checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The Lions clearly saw something nobody else did in Jack Pyburn, taking him 60 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

McAlister falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up.

Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The back end got a real overhaul.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

A reach for LT Overton in the 50th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.

Jude Bowry in the 118th pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.

A swing that ignored the value entirely, Max Llewellyn well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.

Quietly one of the better values of the day, Skyler Gill-Howard at the Round 5 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.

A premium they did not need to pay, Jalen Stroman a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

Eric McAlister in Round 6, Pick 24 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
