Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The Quintayvious Hutchins selection is the head-turner. The Cowboys reached 36 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

The Reiger pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, tight end and other spots still on the board. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a featured back, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick20 Rnd1 Akheem Mesidor
In slot 20 they get a bendy edge with upside, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
Pick92 Rnd3 Kyle Louis
The board had Kyle Louis higher than No. 92, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick112 Rnd4 Mason Reiger
Of all the spots to shop, they chose edge rusher. Mason Reiger in the 112th overall pick leaves quarterback, tight end and other spots for later.
Pick152 Rnd5 Quintayvious Hutchins
This one needs a full-page explanation: Quintayvious Hutchins in pick 152, miles early. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick177 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at the 177th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick180 Rnd5 Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson is a better player than Round 5, Pick 40 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick218 Rnd7 Thaddeus Dixon
A tidy little value on Thaddeus Dixon in pick No. 218, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
