The board owed the Broncos one, and it paid up: Jacob Rodriguez, the No. 74 name on the board, sitting there at the 111th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Every board in the league had Hobbs lower, and that gap is the story. The roster is better shaped than it was, with linebacker chief among the fixes.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
