Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Steelers a B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Steelers did exactly that with TJ Hall in pick 159.
The Davis pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher still on the board. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Pregnon pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In the 21st pick they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
They read the board right and Emmanuel Pregnon was the payoff at pick No. 53. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick76
Rnd3
Keionte Scott
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 12, where Keionte Scott graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick85
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
Domonique Orange slipping to the 85th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick99
Rnd3
Genesis Smith
Genesis Smith at slot 99 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick121
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
They paid sticker price for Bryce Lance in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135
Rnd4
J.C. Davis
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher to take J.C. Davis, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick159
Rnd5
TJ Hall
A big swing on TJ Hall at Round 5, Pick 21, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Pick213
Rnd6
Noah Whittington
They paid up for Noah Whittington at pick No. 213 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick214
Rnd6
Diego Pavia
A real head-scratcher, Diego Pavia in slot 214 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick224
Rnd7
Keyshaun Elliott
They let Keyshaun Elliott come to them and pounced at the 224th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick237
Rnd7
Miles Kitselman
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Miles Kitselman at pick 237. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
