Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
The Patriots won the night they stopped Thomas Jr. from sliding. Grade: B-.

The Patriots lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

The Thomas Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They will need Milton III to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
Rome Odunze in slot 10 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick35 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
Troy Fautanu in the 35th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick67 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
They let Cooper Beebe come to them and pounced at pick No. 67. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick74 Rnd3 Brian Thomas Jr.
Circle this one: Brian Thomas Jr. at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick113 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves is a better player than the 113th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick140 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith slipping to No. 140 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick159 Rnd5 Mike Sainristil
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Mike Sainristil at the Round 5 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick181 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
They liked Joe Milton III enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 181. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224 Rnd7 Cornelius Johnson
A tidy bit of business in the 224th pick, where Cornelius Johnson graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
