Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesC+ FutureF
The Patriots finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a C+.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.

That Ali pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

Reaching for Holker left real value on the table behind him. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marvin Harrison Jr.. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick10 Rnd1 Michael Penix Jr.
No edge and no loss on Michael Penix Jr. in the 10th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick35 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton at pick 35 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick68 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
The board fumbled Edgerrin Cooper all the way to the 68th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick137 Rnd5 Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker at pick No. 137 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick180 Rnd6 Khristian Boyd
A straight-up fair deal on Khristian Boyd at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick193 Rnd6 Ro Torrence
A tidy bit of business in No. 193, where Ro Torrence graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick231 Rnd7 Rasheen Ali
They will replay Rasheen Ali at Round 7, Pick 11 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
