Draft Grade — Browns
Overall F
ValueC- NeedB TradesF FutureC+
The Browns went off-script early, and it cost them a F.

The Browns spent real capital to be 81 picks early on Jaylan Ford, and the board is going to hold them to it. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The Ford pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and cornerback still on the board. The Legette value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left quarterback open, and the grade is the bill.

Pick Analysis
Pick54 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Good price on Edgerrin Cooper in pick 54, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick57 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
Taking Xavier Legette in the 57th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick58 Rnd2 Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick70 Rnd3 Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving in pick No. 70 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick71 Rnd3 Ben Sinnott
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ben Sinnott well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick85 Rnd3 Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at No. 85 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick89 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
This one needs a full-page explanation: Leonard Taylor III in Round 3, Pick 26, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick90 Rnd3 Dylan Laube
They talked themselves into Dylan Laube at pick No. 90, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick92 Rnd3 Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick104 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
They reached into another round for Johnny Wilson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jaylan Ford
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Jaylan Ford while clear needs at quarterback and cornerback sat open.
Pick156 Rnd5 Malik Mustapha
A premium they did not need to pay, Malik Mustapha a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
