The Giants found their guy under center in Ewers: D-. Nobody else had Matthew Sluka anywhere near No. 221. The Giants did, by 119 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Everything downstream of Quinn Ewers depends on Quinn Ewers, and the building knows it.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On value alone, Monangai makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Quinn Ewers
In pick 6 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Earnest Greene III
A reach on Earnest Greene III in the 38th pick; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick70
Rnd3
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne at No. 70 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Pick74
Rnd3
Aydan White
A big swing on Aydan White at the 74th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick109
Rnd4
Caden Prieskorn
They reached a country mile for Caden Prieskorn at pick No. 109, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick114
Rnd4
Kyle Monangai
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kyle Monangai at Round 4, Pick 18 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick139
Rnd5
Ar'maj Reed-Adams
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ar'maj Reed-Adams well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick166
Rnd6
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They liked Antwaun Powell-Ryland enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 166. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick181
Rnd6
Francisco Mauigoa
Francisco Mauigoa at slot 181 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick219
Rnd7
Moose Muhammad III
This one needs a full-page explanation: Moose Muhammad III in the 219th overall pick, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick221
Rnd7
Matthew Sluka
A wild overpay on Matthew Sluka in the 221st pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
