A franchise passer in Sanders headlines a F weekend for the Giants. The Giants put a flag in the ground for Gabe Jacas, 154 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They have staked the next five years on Shedeur Sanders, which is the only story that really matters here.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Bech at that price is a win they earned.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In No. 2 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick13
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In slot 13 they get a featured back at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick66
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at the 66th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick134
Rnd4
Gabe Jacas
Gabe Jacas at Round 4, Pick 33 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jack Bech
Jack Bech at pick 138 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick153
Rnd5
Chandler Rivers
A wild overpay on Chandler Rivers in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick218
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
This one needs a full-page explanation: Riley Mahlman in pick 218, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick245
Rnd7
Francisco Mauigoa
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Francisco Mauigoa well ahead of where he belonged. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick256
Rnd7
Logan Parr
Logan Parr in pick No. 256 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
