Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Jaguars let Echoles fall and pounced. Final grade: D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Jaguars did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A D that will need time and luck to look better.

Getting Echoles where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The cost of the Watson reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 KJ Bolden
In slot 27 they get a two-high chess piece at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick60 Rnd2 Will Echoles
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Will Echoles reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick64 Rnd2 Devan Thompkins
They took Devan Thompkins at par in Round 2, Pick 32, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick91 Rnd3 Greg Johnson
They barely believed it either: Greg Johnson still on the board at the 91st overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick100 Rnd3 Melvin Siani
No edge and no loss on Melvin Siani in pick No. 100; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick130 Rnd4 Myles Graham
Myles Graham at No. 130 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick164 Rnd5 Eli Bowen
A tidy little value on Eli Bowen in slot 164, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick173 Rnd5 Nicholas Rodriguez
Nicholas Rodriguez in the 173rd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick179 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. at the 179th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick215 Rnd6 Amare Thomas
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 6 slot with a little surplus value in Amare Thomas. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick248 Rnd7 Maraad Watson
Maraad Watson at Round 7, Pick 27 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
