Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA+
Grand theft in pick 148: the Bears steal Campbell and grade out a D+. Somebody in pick No. 148 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Jihaad Campbell, the No. 41 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
Good price on Travis Hunter in slot 7, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick14
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the Round 1 slot they get a three-down runner, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34
Rnd2
Cam Ward
They barely believed it either: Cam Ward still on the board at pick 34. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick39
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Circle this one: Nick Emmanwori at Round 2, Pick 7 is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 41 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Pick45
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant at the 45th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick57
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kaleb Johnson at pick No. 57. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick65
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Harold Fannin Jr. at the 65th overall pick is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick74
Rnd3
Armand Membou
They robbed the room for Armand Membou here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jihaad Campbell
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jihaad Campbell in slot 148, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
