The Panthers jumped the board for Jefferson and paid for it: F.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Panthers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.

Every board in the league had Jefferson lower, and that gap is the story. With safety, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake. Landing Latham that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left safety open, and the grade is the bill.
