FutureB-
The Giants found their guy under center in Dart: D+. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Giants shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.
They have staked the next five years on Jaxson Dart, which is the only story that really matters here. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Reaching for Jones Jr. left real value on the table behind him.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In slot 3 they get juice off the edge. A real need, handled.
Pick22
Rnd1
Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart in pick No. 22 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick65
Rnd3
Deone Walker
They reached into another round for Deone Walker, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick99
Rnd3
Emery Jones Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Emery Jones Jr. this early at the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick105
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
They paid sticker price for Smael Mondon Jr. in pick 105, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick154
Rnd5
RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey in No. 154 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick219
Rnd7
Kobe Hudson
Fair-plus on Kobe Hudson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick246
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in Round 7, Pick 30 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
