Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers won the night they stopped Slaughter from sliding. Grade: B-.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jake Slaughter had no business being available in Round 3, Pick 21, and the Steelers did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

The Shelton pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In the 21st pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick53 Rnd2 Drew Shelton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Drew Shelton. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick76 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
They barely believed it either: D'Angelo Ponds still on the board at the 76th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick85 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
They bypassed pressing needs at running back to take Jake Slaughter, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick99 Rnd3 Cade Klubnik
They reached a country mile for Cade Klubnik at pick No. 99, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick121 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Keylan Rutledge while clear needs at running back sat open.
Pick135 Rnd4 Eli Raridon
They read the board right and Eli Raridon was the payoff at slot 135. It fills a real need, too.
Pick159 Rnd5 Albert Regis
Albert Regis at pick 159 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick213 Rnd6 Isaiah Nwokobia
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaiah Nwokobia. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jimmy Rolder
A straight-up fair deal on Jimmy Rolder at the 214th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick224 Rnd7 Logan Fano
A reach on Logan Fano in No. 224; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick237 Rnd7 Diego Pavia
They paid sticker price for Diego Pavia in slot 237, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
