Maye is the Patriots' new face under center. Grade: A-.

Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That Simpson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

The James pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher still on the board. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Drake Maye and all.

In the 6th pick they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick7 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In pick 7 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.

A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Guyton. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick48 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Nice patience on Adonai Mitchell, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.

A tidy little value on Patrick Paul in pick No. 51, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
