The 49ers cashed the board's mistake on Thieneman: C+.

When a board-topper like Dillon Thieneman slides to the 133rd pick, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.

They will need Bisontis to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 1 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Hit on Austin Barber and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Austin Barber
In pick No. 27 they get an anchor for the offensive line, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58 Rnd2 Chase Bisontis
A wild overpay on Chase Bisontis in pick 58, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick92 Rnd3 Xavier Scott
They went early on Xavier Scott in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jake Slaughter
They will replay Jake Slaughter at No. 127 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick133 Rnd4 Dillon Thieneman
A safety of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 33 is the definition of value, full stop. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick138 Rnd4 Max Iheanachor
By-the-book stuff, Max Iheanachor at the 138th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Kobe Baynes
They did well to land Kobe Baynes in slot 171, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
