FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the 49ers this weekend: B. The tape said wait; the 49ers did not. Gino Garcia went at the 252nd overall pick, a good 50 picks before the board was ready. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The 49ers paired the rookies with proven help, Tre'Davious White leading the way.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Neal.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Tyler Booker
In the 27th pick they get a building block for the line, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
They took Jihaad Campbell at par in pick No. 39, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick51
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
Azareye'h Thomas in the 51st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick61
Rnd2
Tre Harris
Tre Harris in No. 61 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick70
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
By-the-book stuff, Omarr Norman-Lott at pick 70 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick71
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
Value said wait; Ashton Gillotte in slot 75 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick91
Rnd3
Devin Neal
Devin Neal in Round 3, Pick 27 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick93
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
The board had Andrew Mukuba higher than No. 93, and the safety fell to them anyway. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick100
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
No drama and no debate, Jared Wilson went about where he belonged in the 100th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
A straight-up fair deal on Joshua Farmer at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick113
Rnd4
Tory Horton
Tory Horton in the 113th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick128
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
They liked Hollin Pierce enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 128. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jonas Sanker
They did well to land Jonas Sanker in pick 138, just ahead of his grade. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick145
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune at No. 145 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick147
Rnd5
Kurtis Rourke
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kurtis Rourke at pick No. 147 is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Pick149
Rnd5
CJ West
They left a pile of value on the table to take CJ West this early at the 149th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick160
Rnd5
Que Robinson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Que Robinson. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick171
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Oronde Gadsden II well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick227
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
They reached a country mile for Teddye Buchanan at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
Pick239
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
Zeek Biggers at Round 7, Pick 23 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jackson Hawes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick252
Rnd7
Gino Garcia
Gino Garcia at pick 252 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
