Larceny in pick No. 104 lands the Dolphins a B+, Iheanachor and all. The board owed the Dolphins one, and it paid up: Max Iheanachor, the No. 63 name on the board, sitting there at Round 4, Pick 4 like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
Curry has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Dolphins indulged a want in Clark while a need in tight end, running back and other spots stayed open.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Dillon Thieneman
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a ballhawk on the back end at fair value. More want than need.
Pick49
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
No drama and no debate, Gennings Dunker went about where he belonged in pick No. 49. It fills a real need, too.
Pick59
Rnd2
Christen Miller
Christen Miller in pick 59 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75
Rnd3
Elijah Sarratt
Elijah Sarratt in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 82nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick90
Rnd3
Caden Curry
Caden Curry at the 90th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick104
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor in No. 104 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick111
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
A reach for Davison Igbinosun in slot 111; a little patience would have been rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick127
Rnd4
Bud Clark
A surprising call. With tight end, running back and other spots still to address, they spent the 127th overall pick on Bud Clark, a safety they were not short of.
Pick139
Rnd5
J.C. Davis
They read the board right and J.C. Davis was the payoff at No. 139. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick144
Rnd5
Louis Moore
Louis Moore at pick No. 144 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick227
Rnd7
Diego Pavia
A conviction pick on Diego Pavia at the Round 7 slot that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
