The 49ers went off the board in a big way for Xavier Truss, 57 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

Winston Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The 49ers indulged a want in Winston Jr. while a need in quarterback and tight end stayed open.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
