FutureB
The Bears worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Bears were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
Every board in the league had Jackson lower, and that gap is the story. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In No. 20 they get a load in the middle at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson in the 39th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick41
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
A premium they did not need to pay, Donovan Ezeiruaku a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick51
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at pick No. 51 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jaylin Noel
A tidy bit of business in pick 72, where Jaylin Noel graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick76
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
They paid a round early for Andrew Mukuba in slot 76, more than the board wanted. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick96
Rnd3
Terrance Ferguson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Terrance Ferguson in Round 3, Pick 32, miles early. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick168
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A reach on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
