A solid, sensible weekend for the Bears: B-. Nobody had Aireontae Ersery this high, and it is not close. The Bears reached 36 spots to get him at pick 18.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Aireontae Ersery
In No. 18 they get a cornerstone up front, a steep price for the projection.
Pick39
Rnd2
Shemar Stewart
Shemar Stewart at pick 39 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick41
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in pick No. 41 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick50
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
They jumped the gun on Alfred Collins, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick72
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
A safety of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 8 is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick136
Rnd4
Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
