Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall

FutureD
The board had answers; the Falcons had Evans. Grade: F. The Falcons lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A F, plain and simple.
The Evans reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring. Starks falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
In pick No. 14 they get a problem off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick15
Rnd1
Will Johnson
Nice patience on Will Johnson, who had no business lasting to pick 15. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick46
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick118
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at No. 118 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick123
Rnd4
Mitchell Evans
Mitchell Evans at the 123rd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick218
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
They paid up for Carson Vinson at Round 7, Pick 2 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick242
Rnd7
Shemar James
Shemar James in slot 242 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
