Loren Wahlin DRAFTING FOR THEPackers

FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Packers, and a B to prove it. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Dont'e Thornton Jr. a full 26 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
However the rest shakes out, Wilson at that price is a win they earned. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
A quiet steal in Round 1, Pick 30: Kenneth Grant for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Pick54
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
Value with a capital V on Tyleik Williams in No. 54, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick62
Rnd2
Darien Porter
Darien Porter at the 62nd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick87
Rnd3
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman at pick No. 87 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick124
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in slot 124 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick159
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A wild overpay on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 159th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick198
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
A conviction pick on Joshua Gray at pick 198 that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Pick237
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Phil Mafah at the Round 7 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick250
Rnd7
John Williams
A big swing on John Williams at pick No. 250, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
