TNoodle DRAFTING FOR THESteelers

Draft Grade — Steelers

FutureB-
A franchise passer in Mendoza headlines a B weekend for the Steelers. The rest of the league will want that one back. Michael Taaffe tumbling to the Steelers in the Round 6 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Everything downstream of Fernando Mendoza depends on Fernando Mendoza, and the building knows it. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Job largely done: quarterback settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
A tidy bit of business in the Round 1 slot, where Fernando Mendoza graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick53
Rnd2
Carnell Tate
Circle this one: Carnell Tate at the 53rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jordyn Tyson
They barely believed it either: Jordyn Tyson still on the board at Round 3, Pick 12. The roster fit checks out.
Pick85
Rnd3
Spencer Fano
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Spencer Fano in pick 85, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick99
Rnd3
Mansoor Delane
You do not let a cornerback like Mansoor Delane reach slot 99 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121
Rnd4
Sonny Styles
Taking Sonny Styles in pick No. 121 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick135
Rnd4
Kayden McDonald
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at No. 135 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick159
Rnd5
Colton Hood
Steal is underselling it; Colton Hood at the 159th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick213
Rnd6
Michael Taaffe
The board fumbled Michael Taaffe all the way to the 213th pick, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick214
Rnd6
Chase Bisontis
They will replay Chase Bisontis at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick224
Rnd7
Ja'Kobi Lane
Ja'Kobi Lane in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick237
Rnd7
Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen in Round 7, Pick 21 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
