Larceny in the 182nd pick lands the Patriots a B-, McCaffrey and all.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Luke McCaffrey, the No. 143 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 182.

They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In pick 3 they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34 Rnd2 Dallas Turner
A edge rusher of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 2 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
They read the board right and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was the payoff at slot 68. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick104 Rnd4 Tykee Smith
Nice patience on Tykee Smith, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick130 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Blake Fisher in No. 130, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick136 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
The board fumbled Khyree Jackson all the way to the 136th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick145 Rnd5 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at pick No. 145 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick182 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey at the 182nd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick229 Rnd7 Omar Speights
Fair-plus on Omar Speights, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
