Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B.

There is reaching, and then there is Moose Muhammad III at pick No. 249. The 49ers jumped the board by 110 and dared it to prove them wrong. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

The Taylor value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In the 11th pick they get a disruptive interior force at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43 Rnd2 Shavon Revel Jr.
A quiet steal in No. 43: Shavon Revel Jr. for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick75 Rnd3 Charles Grant
Charles Grant in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick99 Rnd3 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra in the 99th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111 Rnd4 Vernon Broughton
Value said wait; Vernon Broughton in pick No. 111 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick137 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to Round 4, Pick 36, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick185 Rnd6 Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor in pick 185 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick226 Rnd7 Seth McLaughlin
Somehow Seth McLaughlin was still sitting there in slot 226, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick230 Rnd7 Cody Lindenberg
Nice patience on Cody Lindenberg, who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick249 Rnd7 Moose Muhammad III
Moose Muhammad III at Round 7, Pick 33 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick255 Rnd7 Jaylen Reed
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Jaylen Reed in No. 255, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
