Draft Grade — Browns
Overall C+
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureB+
The Browns let Simon fall into their laps, and walked away with a C+.

You build a draft on nights like this. Cody Simon had no business being available in slot 198, and the Browns did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

If Rourke pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In No. 6 they get a cornerstone up front, reach and all.
Pick33 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
They read the board right and Nick Emmanwori was the payoff at slot 33. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in pick 67 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick84 Rnd3 Colston Loveland
Somehow Colston Loveland was still sitting there in the 84th pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick98 Rnd3 Kurtis Rourke
Kurtis Rourke at the 98th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102 Rnd4 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson at Round 4, Pick 1 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick103 Rnd4 Luke Kandra
No edge and no loss on Luke Kandra in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick138 Rnd5 Brashard Smith
Circle this one: Brashard Smith at pick No. 138 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick154 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
By-the-book stuff, Ty Robinson at slot 154 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick190 Rnd6 Rod Moore
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Rod Moore in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick198 Rnd6 Cody Simon
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 198 is the definition of value, full stop. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in pick No. 214 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick215 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Seth McLaughlin in the 215th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick256 Rnd7 Ben Yurosek
You do not let a tight end like Ben Yurosek reach the 256th pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
