Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Bears. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Ethan Downs, 46 picks early at No. 240. The bottom line is a respectable B.
That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In pick No. 10 they get a workhorse for the backfield. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Warren at slot 39 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick41
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
They barely believed it either: Nick Emmanwori still on the board at the 41st overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick72
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at Round 3, Pick 8 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick148
Rnd5
Ty Robinson
Ty Robinson at No. 148 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick233
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
No drama and no debate, Isaac TeSlaa went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick240
Rnd7
Ethan Downs
A big swing on Ethan Downs at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
