na1234567 DRAFTING FOR THEBuccaneers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall
B-
ValueB-

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Buccaneers: B-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Buccaneers would have aced it. Xavier Thomas at pick No. 125 is 38 spots clear of where he belonged.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes. The back end got a real overhaul.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In No. 26 they get a lockdown presence outside. A real need, handled.
Pick57
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in slot 57, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick89
Rnd3
Maason Smith
They reached a country mile for Maason Smith at pick No. 89, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks in Round 3, Pick 29 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick125
Rnd4
Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220
Rnd6
Jordan Magee
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Magee at the 220th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick246
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
A big swing on Daequan Hardy at pick 246, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
