Draft Grade — Falcons
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB FutureB
The Falcons cashed the board's mistake on Wells Jr.: B.

Somebody in Round 7, Pick 26 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Falcons sat still while Antwane Wells Jr., the No. 191 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The bottom line is a respectable B.

They will need West to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value.
Pick51 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in the 51st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick58 Rnd2 Trey Amos
The board had Trey Amos higher than pick No. 58, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at pick 121 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick127 Rnd4 Ajani Cornelius
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ajani Cornelius in No. 127. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick193 Rnd6 CJ West
CJ West at the 193rd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick199 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Luke Lachey. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick244 Rnd7 Antwane Wells Jr.
Somehow Antwane Wells Jr. was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
