FutureA
Grand theft in the 242nd overall pick: the Falcons steal Stout and grade out a B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Falcons were there to profit. Upton Stout, the No. 178 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 242. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will need Thomas to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The La'el Collins pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Jack Sawyer
In pick 30 they get a disruptor off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick46
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
Azareye'h Thomas at No. 46 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick118
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Kevin Winston Jr. at the 118th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick173
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt in pick No. 173 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick206
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick242
Rnd7
Upton Stout
They will replay Upton Stout at the 242nd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
