Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesD+ FutureA
The Patriots answered their biggest question with Penix Jr.. Grade: B-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Reaching for Braswell left real value on the table behind him. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Michael Penix Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick35 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
A premium they did not need to pay, Patrick Paul a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick51 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell at No. 51 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick64 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. in pick 64 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick103 Rnd4 Bucky Irving
A straight-up fair deal on Bucky Irving at the 103rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick116 Rnd4 Cade Stover
A conviction pick on Cade Stover at the 116th pick that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick140 Rnd5 Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton in Round 5, Pick 4 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick153 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at pick No. 153 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
