Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA+
The Bears won the night they stopped Singer from sliding. Grade: A-. Somebody in slot 226 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bears sat still while Dorian Singer, the No. 176 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Every board in the league had Jacobs lower, and that gap is the story. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector at fair value.
Pick36
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
They liked J.J. McCarthy enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 36. The roster fit checks out.
Pick67
Rnd3
Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens in No. 67 is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick69
Rnd3
Blake Corum
No drama and no debate, Blake Corum went about where he belonged in pick 69. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick73
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
Nice patience on Denzel Burke, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 9. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick105
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dominick Puni at the 105th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick128
Rnd4
Shemar Turner
No edge and no loss on Shemar Turner in pick No. 128; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick133
Rnd4
Cade Stover
They took Cade Stover at par in the 133rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick142
Rnd5
Justin Rogers
Value with a capital V on Justin Rogers in No. 142, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick183
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
This one needs a full-page explanation: Curtis Jacobs in the 183rd overall pick, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick226
Rnd7
Dorian Singer
Dorian Singer in Round 7, Pick 6 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
