The Texans did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. There is reaching, and then there is Isaac Guerendo at pick No. 149. The Texans jumped the board by 28 and dared it to prove them wrong.
Landing Mustapha that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In the 23rd pick they get an island corner at fair value. More want than need.
Pick59
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chris Braswell at the 59th overall pick is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick86
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
A reach for Christian Mahogany in slot 86; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick128
Rnd4
Fabien Lovett
They paid up for Fabien Lovett at No. 128 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick149
Rnd5
Isaac Guerendo
They left a pile of value on the table to take Isaac Guerendo this early at Round 5, Pick 13. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick174
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
Circle this one: Malik Mustapha at pick No. 174 is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jordan Whittington
A reach on Jordan Whittington in No. 236; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick245
Rnd7
Bub Means
They paid a round early for Bub Means in the 245th pick, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick250
Rnd7
Trey Knox
Value with a capital V on Trey Knox in Round 7, Pick 30, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
