Good, not great, for the Commanders: B+. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Ashton Gillotte in No. 63, a good 33 spots before the room expected him. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They banked enough surplus on White III to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick63
Rnd2
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at the 63rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick109
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in No. 109 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish at the 128th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133
Rnd4
Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo in Round 4, Pick 31 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick170
Rnd5
Mitchell Evans
Mitchell Evans in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jaylen Reed
They liked Jaylen Reed enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 173. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick205
Rnd6
Howard Cross III
They jumped the gun on Howard Cross III, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick245
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Ricky White III at the 245th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
