FutureA+
Nobody dealt better than the Buccaneers this weekend: A-. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Buccaneers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
They are betting Slater proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Blue value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In the end it comes back to Donovan Ezeiruaku, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick53
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at pick No. 53 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick56
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at No. 56 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick95
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
Denzel Burke in the 95th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick121
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jackson Slater in the Round 4 slot, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick122
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer in the 122nd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick132
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 132 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick133
Rnd4
Dorian Strong
The board had Dorian Strong higher than Round 4, Pick 31, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick157
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
No drama and no debate, Antwaun Powell-Ryland went about where he belonged in pick 157. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick206
Rnd6
Jaydon Blue
They will replay Jaydon Blue at the 206th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick228
Rnd7
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
The board fumbled KeAndre Lambert-Smith all the way to pick No. 228, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick235
Rnd7
R.J. Mickens
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing R.J. Mickens in pick 235. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
