PiliNui DRAFTING FOR THEBengals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bengals a B-. The Bengals clearly saw something nobody else did in Rylie Mills, taking him 56 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
Getting Briningstool where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Job largely done: tight end settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
They paid sticker price for Kenneth Grant in pick 17, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick49
Rnd2
Jalen Royals
They paid up for Jalen Royals at the Round 2 slot when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick81
Rnd3
Rylie Mills
They talked themselves into Rylie Mills at the 81st overall pick, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick119
Rnd4
Sai'vion Jones
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sai'vion Jones well ahead of where he belonged. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick153
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland in No. 153 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jake Briningstool
They barely believed it either: Jake Briningstool still on the board at slot 193. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
