Tgunz19 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
C+
ValueC-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C+ for the 49ers. There is reaching, and then there is Isaac Rex at slot 251. The 49ers jumped the board by 71 and dared it to prove them wrong. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Landing Smith that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Zach Frazier
In the 31st overall pick they get a building block for the line, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63
Rnd2
Austin Booker
They paid a round early for Austin Booker in Round 2, Pick 31, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick94
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in No. 94, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick124
Rnd4
Mason McCormick
A big swing on Mason McCormick at pick 124, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick131
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in slot 131 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick133
Rnd4
Dwight McGlothern
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dwight McGlothern. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick176
Rnd6
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in Round 6, Pick 1 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick211
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson in No. 211 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick215
Rnd6
Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones at pick 215 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick251
Rnd7
Isaac Rex
Value said wait; Isaac Rex in slot 251 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
