FutureA+
Emmanwori should have been long gone. The Dolphins pounced, and earned a B-. You could see the war room lean forward. Nick Emmanwori at the 51st pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
With quarterback, edge rusher and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick51
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Somehow Nick Emmanwori was still sitting there in the 51st overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick53
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
No edge and no loss on Alfred Collins in No. 53; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick98
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at pick 98 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick118
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer in the 118th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick119
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
No drama and no debate, Cobee Bryant went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 17. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick135
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Mello Dotson at cornerback with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open.
Pick150
Rnd5
Nick Nash
They paid sticker price for Nick Nash in slot 150, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick155
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
They took O'Donnell Fortune at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick224
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
Steal is underselling it; Tahj Brooks at Round 7, Pick 8 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick231
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick253
Rnd7
LaJohntay Wester
LaJohntay Wester at pick 253 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
