Z-smooth DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA+
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a A- to match. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Bo Nix, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. If Rosemy-Jacksaint pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, with Bo Nix leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In the 19th pick they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick21
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin at No. 21 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Pick53
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
They let Chop Robinson come to them and pounced at slot 53. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick110
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 10 with a little surplus value in Jaden Hicks. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick121
Rnd4
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
A wild overpay on Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in pick No. 121, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick127
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe at the 127th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick186
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
They took JD Bertrand at par in pick 186, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick208
Rnd6
Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman in the 208th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick220
Rnd6
Myles Jones
Myles Jones in the 220th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick232
Rnd7
Dylan McMahon
Dylan McMahon in pick No. 232 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
