Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B+
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB
The Cowboys won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+.

The Cowboys torched the value chart for Barryn Sorrell, taking him 117 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Farmer. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
In No. 12 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick64 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at pick 64 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick76 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 12, where Dylan Sampson graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick129 Rnd4 Ajani Cornelius
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ajani Cornelius at slot 129 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick150 Rnd5 Willie Lampkin
Willie Lampkin in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick170 Rnd5 Nick Nash
Nick Nash is a better player than the 170th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick172 Rnd5 Joshua Farmer
Taking Joshua Farmer in slot 172 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick174 Rnd5 Nazir Stackhouse
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nazir Stackhouse well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick190 Rnd6 Karene Reid
By-the-book stuff, Karene Reid at the 190th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick211 Rnd6 Barryn Sorrell
They reached into another round for Barryn Sorrell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick249 Rnd7 Phillip Webb
This one needs a full-page explanation: Phillip Webb in the Round 7 slot, miles early. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
