Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall C+
ValueB NeedB TradesC- FutureD+
The Patriots drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: C+.

The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.

Taylor has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The Braswell pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

If Drake Maye and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center, and a steal at that.
Pick33 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey at pick No. 33 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick34 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in the 34th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick65 Rnd3 T.J. Tampa
A tidy little value on T.J. Tampa in pick 65, a step better than break-even. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick68 Rnd3 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell slid further than he should have, and slot 68 is lovely value for the edge rusher. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick101 Rnd4 Cole Bishop
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cole Bishop in No. 101. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick137 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
They jumped the gun on Luke McCaffrey, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick141 Rnd5 Caedan Wallace
Good price on Caedan Wallace in the 141st overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick180 Rnd6 Tahj Washington
They took Tahj Washington at par in the 180th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick193 Rnd6 Trey Taylor
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Taylor in the 193rd pick, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick231 Rnd7 Garret Greenfield
They paid sticker price for Garret Greenfield in slot 231, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
