Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA
More right than wrong for the Bears, and a B to prove it. The Bears did not so much draft Johnny Wilson as overpay for him, 46 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The veteran additions, Clayton Tune chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick33
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 33 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick39
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at the 39th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick65
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
A reach on Marshawn Kneeland in pick No. 65; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick79
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in slot 79 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick130
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
They paid sticker price for Isaac Guerendo in the 130th overall pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick165
Rnd5
Myles Cole
Myles Cole at Round 5, Pick 29 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick228
Rnd7
Jowon Briggs
They reached into another round for Jowon Briggs, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
