FutureB
The Falcons turned the phones into found money: B+. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Falcons were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Wiley pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Nate Wiggins
In pick No. 14 they get a press-man option on the boundary. Need was not the driver here.
Pick45
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice at pick 45 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick58
Rnd2
Mekhi Wingo
A reach for Mekhi Wingo in slot 58; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick74
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
The board had Javon Bullard higher than No. 74, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick89
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson in the 89th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109
Rnd4
Nelson Ceaser
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nelson Ceaser. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick189
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
A premium they did not need to pay, Jared Wiley a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick200
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
A reasonable price with a little left over, JD Bertrand in the 200th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick201
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall at the 201st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick244
Rnd7
Carson Steele
They paid a round early for Carson Steele in the 244th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
