Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Saints checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named edge rusher, a need the Saints walked right past. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Chambliss at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Every board in the league had Jackson Jr. lower, and that gap is the story.

Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The back end got a real overhaul.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In No. 8 they get a centerfielder for the defense. Need was not the driver here.
Pick42 Rnd2 Chris Bell
No drama and no debate, Chris Bell went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick73 Rnd3 Darrell Jackson Jr.
A conviction pick on Darrell Jackson Jr. at pick No. 73 that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick132 Rnd4 Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss at Round 4, Pick 32 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Pick136 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at pick 136 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick148 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol at the 148th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick170 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. is a better player than the 170th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick188 Rnd6 Quinten Joyner
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Quinten Joyner. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
