Mudski57 DRAFTING FOR THEPanthers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Panthers a B-. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Panthers took Derrick Moore at slot 51, roughly 47 spots before his name belonged.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Stroman falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In pick No. 19 they get a home-run threat at receiver, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick51
Rnd2
Derrick Moore
A wild overpay on Derrick Moore in Round 2, Pick 19, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick83
Rnd3
Chandler Rivers
Chandler Rivers in pick 83 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick119
Rnd4
Malachi Lawrence
Malachi Lawrence at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick156
Rnd5
Lander Barton
Lander Barton in the 156th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick157
Rnd5
Jalen Stroman
Jalen Stroman in slot 157 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick198
Rnd6
Antonio Kite
They read the board right and Antonio Kite was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 19. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick235
Rnd7
Kamran James
A big swing on Kamran James at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
