Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
A franchise passer in Daniels headlines a A- weekend for the Commanders.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Tommy Eichenberg; the Commanders did not wait, grabbing him 68 spots ahead at the 78th overall pick. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.

Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. On value alone, Hadden makes the weekend a net positive.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Eichenberg pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end, edge rusher and other spots still on the board.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In the 6th pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Graham Barton
Graham Barton in pick No. 36 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick40 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in pick 40, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick47 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy in No. 47 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick67 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
They took Kingsley Suamataia at par in slot 67, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick78 Rnd3 Tommy Eichenberg
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Tommy Eichenberg at linebacker with tight end, edge rusher and other spots open.
Pick100 Rnd3 Javon Solomon
A surprising call. With tight end, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent pick 100 on Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE they were not short of.
Pick139 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jarrian Jones in slot 139. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick152 Rnd5 Mason McCormick
No edge and no loss on Mason McCormick in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick222 Rnd7 Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden in the 222nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
