Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D+.

When the story of this class is written, it opens with Ja'Corey Brooks at pick No. 174, a reach of 58 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Getting Hampton where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Cowboys clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick44 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
A clean, defensible pick in pick 44 with a little surplus value in Jihaad Campbell. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick48 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
Josh Conerly Jr. is a better player than No. 48 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick59 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in the Round 2 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Pick92 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at the 92nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick117 Rnd4 Xavier Restrepo
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Xavier Restrepo at slot 117. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick132 Rnd4 Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough in Round 4, Pick 30 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick171 Rnd5 Quincy Riley
No drama and no debate, Quincy Riley went about where he belonged in the 171st pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174 Rnd5 Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks in pick 174 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick204 Rnd6 Carson Vinson
Value said wait; Carson Vinson in the Round 6 slot says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick211 Rnd6 Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner in No. 211 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick237 Rnd7 Akili Arnold
They let Akili Arnold come to them and pounced at pick No. 237. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick239 Rnd7 Thomas Fidone II
Thomas Fidone II at the 239th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
A slide stopped in slot 247, with Jamon Dumas-Johnson worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
