Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesC FutureA
A solid, sensible weekend for the Panthers: B.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Evan Anderson; the Panthers did not wait, grabbing him 42 spots ahead at Round 7, Pick 20. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

However the rest shakes out, Newton at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.

The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Amarius Mims
The board had Amarius Mims higher than the Round 2 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick65 Rnd3 Blake Corum
They talked themselves into Blake Corum at slot 65, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick101 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at pick No. 101 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick142 Rnd5 Josh Newton
The board fumbled Josh Newton all the way to pick 142, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick166 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at No. 166. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240 Rnd7 Evan Anderson
Evan Anderson at the 240th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
